Petricore partnered with Scholastic to develop the companion web app for The Last Resort, an interactive middle grade mystery series created by Newbery Medal winner and New York Times bestselling author Erin Entrada Kelly, alongside acclaimed authors Jasmine Warga and Sara Farizan. Built with 8thWall, the experience lets readers summon ghosts directly from the pages of the books and speak with them to uncover clues and solve the story’s mysteries.

Bringing those conversations to life required custom technology built around VOSK speech recognition and the Earplay Engine, allowing players to ask questions in their own words and receive natural responses from each ghost, all within a mobile web browser.

The project received an Honoree distinction at the Webby Awards and was also nominated for an AWE Auggie Award for Best Campaign, recognizing both the technical innovation and the new approach to interactive storytelling.
