AR Experiments
AR Experiments is a collection of early augmented reality prototypes created as part of our internal R&D efforts. Built using early versions of ARKit, ARCore, and Niantic Lightship, these small games and interactive experiences gave us the opportunity to explore new ideas while gaining hands-on experience with the latest mobile XR technology.
The collection was later released as a bundle and nominated for the 2022 AWE Auggie Award for Best Game or Toy.

Pet the Dog
This AR Experiment is simply titled Pet the Dog is based on the popular twitter account Can you pet the dog? Well, you can! We think the idea of virtual pets being brought to life via AR is extremely exciting, however we wanted to think of ways AR could differentiate from other digital pet games. We settled on testing physical intractability with them, and this was our first test of that.
Paint Mix
This AR Experiment was influenced by the real-world tiktok trend of people trying to guess the final color of mixed paint. In our experiment you can grab colors from the real world, combine them in a digital paint bucket, watch them mix together, and try to match a target color that we provide as close as possible. It’s oddly very compelling, and we’ve found ourselves playing it a lot in the office trying to hunt down objects that have the right shade of green or blue to try to match the given color.

Family Photo
This AR Experiment is based around the idea of being able to pull the photos from your phone and place them on the walls of your real-world home as digital photo frames. What excites us most about this is a wearables empowered AR future where the photos in our home can be continually updated, scaled, and moved without any wall damage required!
Creature Chorus
For this AR Experiment we wanted to create a three dimensional version of Blob Opera / My Singing Monsters, where the music you create would change based on the world around you. Each digital creature you place down produces another beat, and as you move around the space the sound they produce grows/shrinks in volume based on distance or physical objects blocking them. Your own physical movements become an instrument to create music with! We also created a version of this experiment for the Niantic Winter Challenge, which you can see here.
